On the Practical Effects of Baptism
Thursday, 11 June 2009 14:49
The Scriptures have laid the foundation of baptism, and the Church Fathers and serious theologians through the ages have expounded extensively on the subject, such that anything I could say on the matter would be redundant and insufficient. However, as a pastor, I have the opportunity to relate the theory to the practice for the sake of my flock, and anyone else who might benefit.
The Apostles' Fast
Monday, 08 June 2009 09:51
A reminder that this week, June 8-14, there is no fasting, even on Wednesday and Friday.
On Monday, June 15, the Apostles' Fast will begin. This fast honors the Holy Apostles of the Orthodox Christian Church, Saints Peter and Paul, who labored to bring both Jew and Gentile into the Body of Christ in the early days of the Church. The feast of Saints Peter and Paul falls on June 29 (Church Calendar)/July 12 (Civil Calendar). This fast is especially difficult for many as it falls in the summer, but it is an important chance for us to improve our spiritual lives.
Through the intercessions of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul may the Orthodox Church in Greenville, NC continue to grow and prosper!
Righteousness Then and Now
Thursday, 04 June 2009 12:54
“Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.” John 14:10.
Dear Friends in Christ,
In this passage from the Gospel of John, which we read at Saturday’s liturgy, Christ speaks of the unity between Himself and the Father. What is interesting to note is the play on words; “The words I speak” are contrasted with the Father who “doeth the works.”
